There’s no shortage of Black History Month events this year, even as the Covid-19 pandemic lingers.
While many events this month will be virtual, other will be held in-person, such as a signature food event hosted by the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.

What Is It Going To Take? Voting Rights

Date: Tuesday, Feb. 8
Time: 7 p.m.
Place: Virtual (Register)
Voting is a fundamental right and the cornerstone of democracy. Join Levine Museum of the New South for a discussion about the historical and contemporary overview of voting rights in America. Panel includes Regan Aduddell (League of Women Voters), Martha Kropf (professor of political science & public administration, UNC Charlotte) and Kristie Puckett-Williams (ACLU of NC).
The Emmett Till Story: A Search for Justice

Date: Thursday, Feb. 17
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Place: Virtual (Register)
Join The Charlotte Post for a 90-minute discussion with Keith Beauchamp, a Brooklyn-based filmmaker who investigated the murder of Emmett Till 50 years after the teen’s death in 1955. Beauchamp’s research over nine years led to the documentary, “The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till,” which led the U.S. Department of Justice to reopen its investigation in 2004.
Southern Culture on A Plate with Chef Santana Burriss

Date: Friday, Feb. 18
Time: 6:40 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Feed your body and mind with a crafted menu and live performance. Chef Santana Burriss will guide guests through a multi-course dinner, connecting their palettes with a celebration of some of the best in Black Southern art and culture. Charlotte Hornets celebrate HBCUs and Black history

Date: Sunday, Feb. 27
Time: Starting at 12:30 p.m.
Place: Spectrum Center
Current students and alumni of historically Black colleges and universities will gather for an HBCU career fair and networking panel, followed by an HBCU-themed game night when the Hornets take on the Detroit Pistons — all in a day planned to celebrate the impact of Black history and HBCU excellence.
The Write Brothers of Charlotte

Date: Sunday, Feb. 27
Time: 3 p.m.
Place: Virtual (Register)
Join four Charlotte authors — aka The Write Brothers — as they discuss their recently published books. The authors are: Rev. Reggie Tuggle, author of “A Journey Through Grace”; Augustus Parker III, author of “Mining Diamonds”; Patrick Diamond, author of “THE INCREDIBLE JOY of Collecting African American Art: My Journey from Frog Town, S. C. to the National Gallery”; and Ron Ancrum, author of “Keep On Moving: My Journey In The Fourth Quarter.”
