What inspires your work?

I believe the work we do is just needed. The ability to see the literal change in a person’s demeanor after they take a hot shower is what keeps us going. Seeing the weights of their life journey being washed away, at least for a moment keeps us encouraged and inspired. Observing dignity being restored to a grandfather who is living through a homeless situation and hasn’t been able to see his grandchildren in a while, but is reminded of them because of a young volunteer, keeps us inspired.

What makes Charlotte special?

For me, Emmanuel, Charlotte is home. I’ve grown up here. I’ve seen the city grow and have always loved it. The community of Charlotte is what I have always known and I want the best for the city & its people. That’s one of the reasons why I served as a CMPD officer for about 7 years before Hope Vibes was formed. Serving others and seeing the best in people when others don’t is what it’s all about.

Who is/was your greatest inspiration and why?

(Adrienne)  Both of my grandmothers are the two people I’ve been most inspired by. The matriarchs of my family were such stellar examples of what it means to be a woman. They were women of prayer, took care of their families, invested in their communities and ran their own businesses. They taught me what it means to live as a servant leader within the context of family, community and business.  As an adult now, I carry many of the valuable lessons that they instilled in me as I now serve as a leader in my home, city and surrounding regions. I find great joy in having the opportunity to give my life in service to others and the impact that is produced as a result.
