A 22-year-old man faces multiple charges after stealing a vehicle and running over a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer on Friday.

The suspect has been identified as Bryan Calderon.

According to a tweet by CMPD, around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to 100 Red Roof Drive for a stolen vehicle call from an auto business.

CMPD said the business was tracking a vehicle taken from their lot and officers found it in the 8800 block of Sharonbrook Drive.

When they approached the stolen vehicle, Calderon “drove off striking one officer, knocking him to the ground and running over his legs,”police said.

CMPD said a pursuit began and went into York County. It ended almost a half hour later by South Carolina Highway Patrol who took Calderon into custody, police said.

He was charged in South Carolina for hit-and-run and DWI, police said. Calderon faces additional charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, hit-and-run, fleeing to elude and no operator’s license, according to the department.

CMPD said the officer who was struck “had some scrapes and bruises but was okay.”
