Charlotte-Mecklenburg school employees will get double the amount of bonuses originally planned, thanks to a school board vote last night.

Full-time staff will receive an additional $2,500 and part-time staff will receive an additional $1,250. One installment has already been paid. The other will be paid later this year.

Board chair Elyse Dashew said in a CMS statement that the staff’s bonuses are “an additional way of recognizing their amazing work,” but that better pay is needed for public school workers.

The Federal American Rescue Plan is paying the $97 million cost of the bonuses.
