Charlotte SHOUT! will make its long-awaited return this spring.

From April 1 through April 17, the city will showcase local artists and their work through art, music, food and ideas.

Charlotte SHOUT! will also feature more than 200 concerts, events and performances.

“Our vision is to make Charlotte a premier destination for culturally diverse arts, ideas and experiences,” Robert Krumbine, a senior vice president at Charlotte Center City Partners, said during Monday’s City Council meeting, where council members got an update on plans for the festival.

Charlotte SHOUT! was created in 2019 as the finale to CLT 250, a celebration of the city’s 250th birthday. The event is managed by Blumenthal Performing Arts and Center City Partners.

The festival’s inaugural run saw thousands of visitors participate in more than 200 events, including art installations, concerts, celebrity speakers and other activities. But because of the pandemic, Charlotte SHOUT! was canceled in 2020 and 2021.

Meredith Conolly, a local artist, said Charlotte SHOUT! will not only provide a fun experience but will also yield an economic boost for the city’s artists, many of whom have struggled to earn a living during pandemic shutdowns.

“Other cities have art festivals of this caliber, and I think that it’s something that is extremely needed in order for us to have artists continuing to grow, stay here and give back to the community,” she said.
