The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle collision Friday that left one dead.

Authorities have identified the victim as 32-year-old Sandra Medina Gama.

According to a statement by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, at approximately 7:54 p.m., officers responded to 12314 Caldwell Road in reference to a two-vehicle crash call.

When officers got there, they located a 2003 Volkswagen Passat with left side damage. Gama, the driver of the vehicle, was unresponsive inside the Volkswagen.

Officers also located a 2016 Audi A6 with its driver, 26-year-old Loretta Kimberly Peart-Evans, with injuries sustained in this crash. There were no other occupants involved in this crash.

When Medic arrived on the scene, they pronounced Gama dead. Peart-Evans was transported to the hospital with a minor injury.

According to CMPD investigation, the victim was traveling southwest on Caldwell Road and entered a left-hand curve within the 12000 block at a high rate of speed.

Gama had veered to the right of the road then overcorrected to the left.

When the Gama re-entered the roadway, her Volkswagen became uncontrollable while crossing the center double yellow line.

The Volkswagen then struck the driver’s side of the Audi. The Audi was traveling northeast.

Speed and failure to wear a seatbelt are contributing factors for Gama in this crash. Impairment is unknown as a toxicology report is pending.

Peart-Evans was not impaired at the time of the crash and was wearing a seatbelt. Speed was not a factor for Ms. Peart-Evans.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
