A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was shot while responding to a call in Noda on Tuesday morning.

The name of the officer has not been released but his injuries are non-life-threatening, the department said.

CMPD continues to search for the suspect, the department said.

According to a statement from CMPD, around 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting into an occupied dwelling in the 400 block of E. 36 Street.

 “There was an issue with a patron at The Blind Pig in NODA. A patron was asked to leave the business after an altercation ensued,” CMPD said.

While on scene, an officer was struck by gunfire in the upper leg and was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries, according to the department.

“There is no indication at this time that officers returned fire”, the department said in a statement.

CMPD tweeted that “N. Davidson Street is shut down from 34th Street to Mercury Street. 36th Street is closed between N. Tryon and North Alexander. “

The department encouraged people to avoid the area if possible.
