More than 25 nonprofits, most serving Charlotte’s west side, got a financial boost this holiday season.

The Parham Family Charitable Fund announced this month that it had committed $100,000 to help local organizations working to address affordable housing, food insecurity, literacy and access to higher education.

Roger and Claudette Parham, the husband-wife duo behind the fund, said the grants have no restrictions, and none of the organizations applied. Instead, the Parham’s chose each recipient based on its work and community impact.

“We are incredibly blessed, and we believe very much in sharing that blessing with our neighbors that require support in our community,” Claudette Parham said. “That’s a given for us. We love small organizations that are already in place. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. We need to support the people that are doing such a great job, addressing some of the glaring needs of our community.”

Claudette said she and her husband have a “soft spot” for the Beatties Ford community, and several of the nonprofits receiving a grant serve residents along the corridor, “and that is incredibly important to us.”

Roger Parham, a longtime real estate executive, and Claudette, a retired corporate executive, own dozens of commercial and residential properties throughout the Charlotte area, including the Bank of America building at Beatties Ford Road and Dr. Webber Avenue.

With its latest grant commitment, the Parham fund will have donated more than $260,000 to nonprofit and religious organizations since its founding in 2019.

In an interview with QCity Metro, Claudette said the couple typically is private about their charitable contributions. This time, however, they decided to take a different approach and perhaps inspire others.

“We wanted to get this out…in hopes that it would kind of prod someone else to contribute and to be philanthropic this season,” Claudette Parham said.

She added: “The message is, we are normal folks; we’re just very blessed folks, and we’re on a mission because we want to do everything we can to do our part to improve Charlotte and to support our neighbors who need our help.”
