A Charlotte and Detroit-based organization recently invested $1.5 million in 16 Black-led grassroots organizations. This is on top of a recent $400,000 investment. 

City Startup Labs is one of the eight organizations in Charlotte that will receive funding.

Founder and executive director Henry Rock said in a statement that the funding would enable his organization to be more nimble and focus its work on the ReEntry Entrepreneurship Program for formerly incarcerated people. 

The Ally Charitable Foundation has contributed $3.4 million in grant money to organizations focusing on economic mobility, financial education, workforce development and affordable housing. Below is a full list of Charlotte organizations to receive grants. 

Why it matters: Many of the organizations listed are in Charlotte’s Historic West End, which has been the site of investment after years of underinvestment.
