The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that resulted in a civilian getting shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer on Wednesday.

According to a statement by CMPD, officers responded to a citizen-initiated armed person call near the 17200 block of Annabelle Place.

When officers arrived, one of them encountered an individual and then discharged his service weapon, striking the subject in the leg.

Officers provided medical assistance and treated the subject on the scene. The subject was transported by Medic to the hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

The State Bureau of Investigation will be the primary investigative agency for this case.

CMPD Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether CMPD policies and procedures were followed during the incident.

CMPD has not released the name of the officer but stated that he/she will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy whenever an officer discharges a service weapon.
