If you’re anything like me, you’ve been indoors, staying cautiously put as the last remnants of winter storm Izzy melt down the storm drains.

By the way, meteorologists are predicting more winter weather this weekend in the Charlotte region.

Not sure yet how that will impact your plans, but in the meantime, there’s an array of events to fancy, including the annual Queen’s Feast, featuring more than 70 restaurants.

Our reporter Jalon Hill will have more on that below.

More than eats, this week’s lineup also includes a musical, a poetry slam, and an NBA game with a buzzing young Hornets team.

On another note: Happy birthday to Helen Taylor, a loyal QCity Metro member, and welcome to our newest members, Donna Franklin and Sidney Smith.

Thank you for your contributions and for helping us grow. If you’re not yet a member, consider supporting QCity Metro. When you do, you support one of our nation’s oldest institutions. Not the church or HBCUs, but the Black Press. (More on that in Feb.)

Enjoy your weekend QCity, and don’t forget to check the weather before you go.

Black-owned South Charlotte restaurant What the Fries will be featured in season 16 of “Food Paradise” in the “Retro Remix” episode.

The two dishes to feature on the show include a long-time favorite that will return to the permanent menu after the episode airs.

Specializing in gourmet loaded fries, chef and co-owner Greg Williams is excited to have What the Fries featured on national television.

“Having an opportunity like this to showcase our food, our first restaurant, and our people at a national level is just amazing,” he says in a statement.

What the Fries aims to deliver something beyond delicious foods to its community.

“We hope this will help set us apart and tell the story of how we are more than just fries; what we offer is an elevated and unexpected culinary experience,” says chef and co-owner Jaime Barnes.

You can watch the episode on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 10 p.m. on the Cooking Channel.

If you want to experience the restaurant yourself, check it out and let us know what you think.

Charlotte Restaurant Week, aka Queen’s Feast, returns Friday, but with a few changes this year.

Queen’s Feast has expanded to include more than 70 restaurants throughout Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Iredell, Gaston, Catawba, Stanly, York, and Lancaster counties.

Through Jan. 30, participating restaurants will offer prix fixe meals priced at $40 and $45, in addition to options priced at $30 and $35.

Queen’s Feast founder Bruce Hensley decided to offer more pricing options this year to help struggling restaurants cope with higher food and operating costs.

Check out the list of restaurants and their locations curated by our reporter Jalon Hill.
